We do not recommend Cancun where you'll only find huge hotel resorts far from being the best.
Tulum is a charming place and much more relaxing than Playa del carmen but in opposition with appearances, the prices are higher.
Be careful with the Playacar area next to Playa del Carmen : taxis charge you up to 70 to 90 pesos to get downtown. To be considered in your budget.
The best remains downtown Playa del Carmen which is at the center of Riviera Maya, where you'll find starts to many excursions, tours and activities.
